The Barber found himself in the opening match, opposite The Honkytonk Man, for the third Series in a row. Practice did indeed make perfect, as Brutus went from jobbing to Honky in 1987 to taking Honky and himself out via countout in 1988 to pinning Honky on his way to pinning Handsome Rick Martel and surviving the match.
How much must it have hurt the stoic Bret Hart to act as gung ho as the rest of his team?
The Hulkamaniacs team is all babyfaces who are insanely over. If this match were a game of 9-ball, it would be the Million $ Team running the table all the way until Hogan finally chips in the 9-ball at the end. Along the way, DiBiase's team commits three table scratches and Hogan's team capitalizes by losing more teammates, all via pinfall.
What I love about the Rude-Piper match is that it's four smooth, polished, arrogant heels vs. four wild 'n crazy babyfaces.

Macho Man and Hacksaw were on opposite sides of the ring from Hercules in the 87 Series. In 1988, Macho and Hercules teamed together. This year, Hacksaw and Hercules were on one team, Macho on the opposing team. In this very same match, Bret Hart opposed Dino Bravo, with whom he teamed in the 1987 edition.
