WWE Survivor Series 1991

I saw this on pay per view with my brother and our friends in Waikoloa. I remember being disappointed because the opening match's finish was lame and the Federation title match was the most boring match in Survivor Series history to that point. And notice how much time is given to the Macho Man-Jake storyline, when neither guy was even on the show. Still, the action is mostly decent and I love the second match.

This event was covered in WWF Magazine, and they incorrectly credited Rowdy Roddy Piper with eliminating DiBiase with a schoolboy rollup. They also didn't mention DiBiase's audible "reverse, charge" call. For the first time in Survivor Series history, the I-C champion isn't his team's captain.

Shawn Michaels did not abandon his teammate, Gorilla. He left ringside because he had been eliminated, just like the rules state for every elimination match. Rest in peace Gorilla, you and Heenan were the greatest.

Another fun Easter egg: this is the pre-Raw era when the Federation would air a television special the Sunday before the pay per view event on USA Network. For the second year in a row on USA's Survivor Series Showdown, The Big Bossman faced Earthquake in a singles match. Hacksaw and Hercules were on opposing teams in Series 87, the same team in 89, and opposing teams this year. Hercules also found himself wrestling opposite fellow Series five-timer Tito Santana for the second year in a row.
